Number: AV16-004
Date: 11 January 2016
Purpose
The purpose of this advisory is to bring attention to multiple PHP security updates.
Assessment
PHP has released multiple security updates covering vulnerabilities in versions prior to 7.0.2, 5.6.16, and 5.5.31. Those updates include patches to address vulnerabilities which could potentially allow an attacker to perform remote code execution.
Additionally as of July 10, 2016, PHP 5.5 will have reached its end of life and will no longer be supported.
Suggested Action
CCIRC recommends organizations consult with vendors for confirmation on whether their products and/or service providers are utilizing vulnerable versions of PHP. As vendor-released updates become available, organizations should test and deploy updates to affected applications/platforms accordingly.
Migration to an updated development platform can present unique challenges and it is critical that organizations operating PHP 5.5 plan and test a migration solution before the deadline.
