A quick update on GeekWeek 7

GeekWeek 7 is underway!

As Scott Jones said in our previous blog post, our annual cyber security workshop is underway and has gone virtual for the first time ever. So how has GeekWeek been going so far? Read on to find out.

The event kicked off with an opening ceremony that featured remarks from director Christine Beauchamp, Cyber Centre Head Scott Jones, and keynote speaker Dr. Celeste Fralick from McAfee. Participants had the opportunity to participate in a live chat, which included Dr. Fralick to answer questions.

Every day, lunch and learn sessions have introduced participants to new technologies. These sessions feature presenters from both the Cyber Centre and participating organizations, emphasizing GeekWeek’s theme of collaboration by explaining new systems and tools.

Overall, GeekWeek 7 attendees have been just as enthusiastic and engaged as previous editions. Even in a virtual setting teams have been able to socialize by leaving microphones on to chat and by sharing photos to show off their work setups and personal GeekWeek materials. During the evenings, participants have gotten to know each other through social activities such as a virtual board game night and a virtual murder mystery session.

Thanks again to everyone taking part in GeekWeek 7! We couldn’t do it without you!
