Symantec Releases security update

Purpose

The purpose of this advisory is to bring attention to the recently released security update for Symantec Antivirus Engine.

Assessment

Symantec has released a Security Advisory to address critical vulnerabilities that could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code with root/system privileges on affected systems.

Affected software versions:
- Symantec Anti-Virus VirusA computer program that can spread by making copies of itself. Computer viruses spread from one computer to another, usually without the knowledge of the user. Viruses can have harmful effects, ranging from displaying irritating messages to stealing data or giving other users control over the infected computer. Engine version 20151.1.0.32

Suggested Action

CCIRC recommends that system administrators test and deploy the vendor-released updates to affected applications accordingly.
