On 19 May 2020 Apache released a security bulletin to address a vulnerability affecting version 3.0.0 of their CouchDB product. This version shipped with a new control that once enabled is intended to restrict unauthenticated (anonymous) database server access from all but the ‘/_up’ endpoint. However, an error in the implementation of this control mistakenly allows unauthenticated access to the database server from all endpoints resulting in the potential for privilege escalation.
Apache has released two new versions of CouchDB to resolve this issue; Version 3.0.1 being a bugfix release and version 3.1.0 being a feature release.
